2. What personal data do we collect?
You can browse the World of Bacteria website without creating an account.
If you subscribe to atlas updates, we collect your email address. The subscription system may also store technical and administrative information related to your subscription, such as the date of subscription, confirmation status, unsubscribe status and records necessary to document consent.
3. Why do we process your email address?
Your email address is used only to send occasional World of Bacteria updates, for example when new bacterial species, image collections or educational resources are published.
We do not sell your email address. We do not use it for unrelated marketing purposes.
4. Legal basis for processing
The legal basis for sending atlas updates is your consent. You give this consent when you subscribe to the updates.
You may withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in each email or by contacting us directly.
5. Use of Brevo
We use Brevo to manage email subscriptions and send atlas updates. When you subscribe, the data you provide through the subscription form are transferred to Brevo and processed for the purpose of managing the mailing list and sending emails on behalf of World of Bacteria.
Brevo acts as an email marketing and subscription management service provider. Depending on Brevo’s infrastructure and subprocessors, personal data may be processed outside the European Economic Area under appropriate safeguards.
6. How long do we keep your data?
We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to atlas updates.
If you unsubscribe, your email address will no longer be used for sending updates. Limited records may be retained where necessary to document consent, manage unsubscribe requests or comply with legal obligations.
7. Your rights
Under applicable data protection law, you may have the right to request access to your personal data, correction of inaccurate data, deletion of your data, restriction of processing, data portability, or withdrawal of consent.
You may also object to certain types of processing where applicable.

Analytics data are used for website statistics and project development. We do not use analytics data to identify individual visitors.
